


Robert G. Watson Jr. – Principal and Chief Executive Officer
Robert co-founded Black Sable Energy LLC in January 2008 with West Coast Venture Fund. Robert is responsible for the oversight, management and execution of all Company operations including project generation and evaluation, drilling and production operations, and all administrative functions of the Company.
Prior to founding Black Sable, Robert founded Centerra Energy Partners, a San Antonio-based exploration and development company that generated exploration prospects and pursued various acquisitions of existing production and/or leasehold with significant exploitation upside. While at Centerra, Robert was responsible for the management and execution of all company business.
Prior to founding Centerra, Robert was a Senior Associate in the Dallas office of American Capital Strategies (NASDAQ: ACAS), a private equity and mezzanine debt investment firm with over $20 billion of capital resources. During Robert's tenure, American Capital increased its asset base from approximately $600 million to $5 billion.
While at American Capital, Robert reviewed, analyzed and evaluated over 250 potential mezzanine, equity and leveraged buyout investment opportunities, and executed 7 transactions representing over $150 million of invested capital. In addition, Robert actively participated in the daily management of 12 American Capital portfolio companies representing over $200 million of invested capital. During his tenure, Robert served as a member of the board of directors of Network for Communications and Research LLC and Consolidated Utility Services, Inc.
Robert began his business career in the Energy Investment Banking Group at CIBC World Markets in Houston, Texas. At CIBC, Robert executed various transactions including common equity offerings, mergers & acquisitions and various financial advisory assignments for companies in the oil & gas industry.
Robert received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Lance Helfert - Principal
Lance is the President and a Co-founder of West Coast Asset Management, Inc. (WCAM), an equity, fixed income and alternative asset manager located in Montecito, CA with approximately $200 million under management. In addition to co-founding Black Sable Energy, he is a co-founder of West Coast Opportunity Fund, LLC and Montecito Venture Partners, LLC. Prior to founding WCAM, Lance oversaw a $1 billion portfolio at Wilshire Associates and was involved in a full range of financial strategies at M.L. Stern & Co. He has also served on the board of directors for Junior Achievement of Southern California and the Tri-Counties Make-A-Wish Foundation. Lance has been honored as one of the top executives in banking and finance by the Pacific Coast Business Times and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He is a co-author of The Entrepreneurial Investor (Published by John Wiley & Sons), and is frequently interviewed on the Fox Business channel. In addition, Lance has been a featured speaker at the Value Investing Congress in New York and California.
Atticus Lowe, CFA - Principal
Atticus is the Chief Investment Officer and a Principal of West Coast Asset Management, Inc. (WCAM), an equity, fixed income and alternative asset manager located in Montecito, CA with approximately $200 million under management. In addition to co-founding Black Sable Energy, he is a co-founder of West Coast Opportunity Fund, LLC and Montecito Venture Partners, LLC. Atticus is a CFA Charterholder and a co-author of The Entrepreneurial Investor (Published by John Wiley & Sons). He has been profiled in Oil and Gas Investor magazine and Value Investor Insight and has been a featured speaker at the Value Investing Congress in New York and California. Honored as a member of the “Forty Under 40” Class by the Pacific Coast Business Times, Atticus holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business from Westmont College in Montecito, California.
